Achieve permanent hair removal with
Intense Pulse Light
Although IPL hair removal achieves permanent hair removal,
in order to obtain a satisfactory hair removal result, the
patient needs to receive five to ten treatments every one
to two months for a total of one to two years.
Initially the growth of hair stops or slows after the hair
removal procedure and a fair number of hairs fall out completely
as well so the patient feels a satisfactory result from the
hair removal process. However the growth of hair returns after
one to two months. This is when the second procedure needs
to be performed. If one obtains a 10 to 20% reduction in growth
from the first treatment, then although it can vary by area
and thickness, 5 to 10 total treatments can result in significant
hair removal.
IPL process is initiated by shaving the treatment area, and
in cases where it is needed an anesthetic ointment is applied
as well. The treatment time is short enough so that in the
case of arm pits it can be performed within one to two minutes.
The underlying principle behind the IPL process is to expose
the melanin located within the hair roots to the IPL. The
wavelength and length of time exposed is adjusted so that
only the hair roots are selectively destroyed without affecting
the skin itself. A side benefit of the IPL process is that
the skin becomes smoother and more elastic due to the contraction
of the hair roots. It is recommended that sun block is applied
frequently after an IPL procedure.
There are occasions when one gets an infection when shaving
the arm pit hair, but there are no such worries with the IPL
process. In fact, even if there is an infection, the IPL procedure
cures the infection, as well as removes the hair roots.
