ASIAN RHINOPLASTY

While any rhinoplasty requires delicate skill and an artistic eye, Asian rhinoplasty requires a new level of excellence. Asian Rhinoplasty usually involves enhancing the height of the nose, sharpening its tip, making the nose narrower and more popularly raising the nose bridge.

How does Dr. Andrew Kim perform the surgery?

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure to reconstruct and reshape one’s nose.
For Asians, rhinoplasty involves inserting an implant over the nasal bridge, often with a material called Goretex™, in order to give extra height. It also involves reshaping the nose tip by using some septum or ear cartilage if necessary.

The same technique is applied for Caucasian noses; however, some methods that are used for Caucasians do not always work effectively on Asians.

Is Rhinoplasty safe?

Rhinoplasty is performed with twilight anesthesia so the patient will be sedated.

Dr Kim prefers to use Goretex™ and carves a nasal implant during the procedure so he is able to adjust and create an appropriate implant that suits one’s nose. Dr Kim harvests septum cartilage which allows him not only to reshape the nose tip but also to give extra length to the nose. By using one’s natural tissues, it reduces risks of implant rejection and infection.

How long does the nose surgery take?

Dr. Andrew Kim takes usually between 2 – 4 hours. We have an efficient team to care for the patient during and after the surgery.

How long is the recovery process?

Most people develop swelling and bruising after the surgery for the first couple of days. The patient may also have some difficulty breathing through the nose. Swelling should peak in a few days, and gradually reduces over a couple of months. Stitches are usually removed between 5 – 6 days after the surgery and no further tapings are required.

Our friendly staff will provide pre and post surgery care instructions to follow.
